We start our tour passing by the Archeological museum, YMCA building, the International Hellenic EXPO center and the National Telecommunication Tower.
We continue to the Arch of Galerius and Rotonda (St. George)from the 4th century. Following the city’s castle wall (Heptapyrgion) a fortress from the Byzantine empire years we “climb” to the city’s upper part with stunning views to the gulf o Thermaikos. We park and go for a small walk to the edge of the fortress to visit the “Trigonou (triangle) Tower” for pictures and a coffee brake.
We continue passing from the most inner part of the castle which from 1890 for 100 years used to be the main jail house of the city named Yedi Cule (7 towers). We star deccenting threw the old city’s part inside the acropolis (fortress) passing from neighborhoods with traditional architecture such as Tsinari and Ano Polis viewing monuments such as Vlatadon Monastery (stop for pictures) and less visited church of Saint Nicholas Orphanos, church of Prophet Elijah and the Church of Saint Demetrius from 7th century AC the patron saint of Thessaloniki. Leaving the fortress we enter to a more fresh part of the city and it’s time to have a taste of today’s city life. We enter the clubbing zones of Thessaloniki passing by Valaoritou street area with more than 50 bars and restaurants in 6 blocks area and we continue to “Ladadika” area (old commercial warehouses) to smell in the air spices, grilled meat olive oil and paper. The exit from “Ladadika” drives us to the port which hostes in it’s old warehouses the heart of the city’s culture. A small walk will pass us from the Thessaloniki’s International Film Festival premises, the Photography & Cinema museums and the main port building. Our tour will end driving to the city’s main shopping streets and the last spot the Aristotelous square the heart of Thessaloniki
